HEMP HUMMUS RECIPE

by Julie Morris
Watch a good video on how Julie makes this tasty treat:
http://www.foodmatters.tv/_webapp/Hemp_Hummus_Recipe

Ingredients
1 1/2 Cups Garbanzo Beans or Chickpeas (pre soaked and cooked until soft)
4 TB Hemp Seeds
1 TB Hemp or Flax Oil
1 Tsp. Garlic Powder
1/3 Cup Lemon Juice
1/2 Tsp. Salt
2 TB Tahini (sesame paste)
Method
This recipe is very simple and fun, just take all the ingredients and place them in a food processor or blender and mix them until they have a creamy texture. This healthy treat goes great with crackers or raw vegetables. A very creamy and healthy version of hummus, with a major load of protein, provided by the hemp seeds.

Benefits of Hemp Oil

Hemp oil has long been recognised as one of the most versatile and beneficial substances known to man. Derived from hemp seeds it has been regarded as a superfood due to its high essential fatty acid content and the unique ratio of omega3 to omega6 and gamma linolenic acid (GLA) - 2:5:1. It is this ratio that is believed to be optimal in terms of improving skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and acne. It has been reported that those using hemp oil as a supplement begin to experience noticeably softer skin, stronger nails and thicker, smoother hair after only a few weeks.

Hemp oil is also the only food oil that contains not only omega3, omega6, but also GLA. This GLA content means that hemp is a rival to Evening Primrose Oil as well as flax seed oil, as GLA is the main EFA that is believed to relieve symptoms of pre-menstrual tension (PMT).

Hemp oil is also ideal for those who are concerned about taking fish supplements due to the reported contamination of fish with mercury and other toxins. This is particularly prevalent for pregnant women and nursing mothers who are looking to reduce their fish intake but still maintain a desired level of EFAs.
ASPARTAME - IS THE SWEET TASTE WORTH THE HARM??

Today, aspartame accounts for over 75% of the adverse reactions to food additives reported to the FDA. How sweet it is?A few of the 90 different documented symptoms include: headaches/migraines, dizziness, seizures, nausea, numbness, muscle spasms, weight gain, rashes, depression, fatigue, irritability, tachycardia, in...somnia, vision problems, hearing loss, heart palpitations, breathing difficulties, anxiety attacks, slurred speech, loss of taste, tinnitus, vertigo, memory loss and joint pain. Can diabetes be cured in under 30 days??

http://www.naturalnews.com/028653_raw_foods_diabetes.html
This simple tip keeps flies and wasps away from doors and windows!

I'm going to try this ---- great idea -- if it works...!

ZIP LOCK BAG - Good tip!

Some friends went to Sweety Pies on Sunday for breakfast and sat in
the patio section beside the house. We happened to
notice zip lock baggies pinned to a post and a wall. The bags
were half filled with water, each contained 4 pennies, and they were
zipped shut. Naturally we were curious! Ms. Sweety told
us that these baggies kept the flies away! So naturally we
were even more curious! We actually watched some flies come in
the open window, stand around on the window sill, and then fly out
again. And there were no flies in the eating area! This
morning I checked this out on Google. Below are comments on
this fly control idea. I'm now a
believer!

Ann Says:

I tried the ziplock bag and
pennies this weekend.. I have a horse trailer. The flies were
bad while I was camping. I put the baggie with pennies above the
door of the LQ. NOT ONE FLY came in the trailer. The horse trailer
part had many. Not sure why it works but it does!

Danielle Martin Says:

Fill a ziplock bag with water and 5 or 6 pennies and hang it in the
problem area. In my case it was a particular window in my home. It
had a slight passage way for insects. Every since I have done that,
it has kept flies and wasps away. Some say that wasps and flies
mistake the bag for some other insect nest and are
threatened.

Maggie Says:

I swear by the plastic bag of water trick. I have them on porch and
basement. We saw these in Northeast Mo. at an Amish
grocery store & have used them since. They say it works because
a fly sees a reflection & won't come
around.

DJ Says:

Regarding the science behind zip log bags of water? My research found that the
millions of molecules of water presents its own prism effect and
given that flies have a lot of eyes, to them it's like a zillion
disco balls reflecting light, colors and movement in a dizzying
manner. When you figure that flies are prey for many other bugs,
animals, birds, etc., they simply won't take the risk of being
around that much perceived action. I moved to a rural area and
thought these "hillbillies" were just yanking my city boy chain but
I tried it and it worked immediately! We went from hundreds of flies
to seeing the occasional one, but he didn't hang around
long.

Are Bacterial Toxins of Cereus Concern for Milk Drinkers?

Are Bacterial Toxins of Cereus Concern for Milk Drinkers?

"Bacterial cereus causes two types of food-borne intoxications
(as opposed to infections). One type is characterized by nausea
and vomiting and abdominal cramps and has an incubation period
of 1 to 6 hours. It resembles Staphylococcus aureus food poisoning
in its symptoms and incubation period. This is the "short-incubation"
or emetic form of the disease. The second type is manifested
primarily by abdominal cramps and diarrhea with an incubation
period of 8 to 16 hours. Diarrhea may be a small volume or profuse
and watery. This type is referred to as the "long-incubation" or
diarrheal form of the disease, and it resembles more food poisoning
caused by Clostridium perfringens. "
- Lectures in Microbiology by Kenneth Todar PhD
(Medical textbook on Bacteriology)

Not yet convinced? Here's more:

This study will appear in the May, 2010 issue of a
peer-reviewed scientific journal, Food Microbiology:

ABSTRACT:

"Persistence strategies of Bacillus cereus spores isolated
from dairy silo tanks.
Shaheen R, Svensson B, et. al.

Department of Applied Chemistry and Microbiology, University
of Helsinki, Biocenter 1, Viikinkaari 9, Helsinki, Finland.

Survival of Bacillus cereus spores of dairy silo tank origin was
investigated under conditions simulating those in operational
dairy silos.

The spores were studied for survival when immersed in liquids
used for cleaning-in- place (1.0% sodium hydroxide at pH 13.1,
75 degrees C; 0.9% nitric acid at pH 0.8, 65 degrees C), for
adhesion onto nonliving surfaces at 4 degrees C and for germination
and biofilm formation in milk.

CONCLUSION:
Eight out of the 14 dairy silo tank isolates possessing hot-alkali
resistant spores were capable of germinating and forming biofilm
in whole milk, not previously reported for B. cereus."

Every Raw Milk Supporter Should Read This
Posted by: "cohensmilk1" cohensmilk1@yahoo.com

There is debate regarding the etiology of
Guillain-Barre syndrome, a devastating
disease of the nerves. One theory suggests
that the cause is the cytomegalovirus. A
second theory suggests that the cause is
salmonella bacteria found in undercooked
meat or chicken or unpasteurized milk.
One thing is certain...before drinking
body fluids from diseased animals, people
should first get their heads examined.
Offerng these potential poisons to trusting
children in the name of health is an act of
extreme negligence.

Man On Life Support After Drinking Raw Milk
April 20, 2010

PITTSBURGH -- A 67-year-old man from Mars, Pa., is on
life support at UPMC Presbyterian and his family is
convinced it's because of the raw milk he consumed
more than a month ago.

"I heard about all the health benefits," said the
man's wife, Maureen Orchard. "We thought we were
doing something good for ourselves."

James Orchard was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome
(GBS), a disorder in which the body's immune system attacks
part of the peripheral nervous system. Except for minimal
head and eye movement, Orchard is totally paralyzed.

Several days before the onset of his illness, Orchard and
other members of his family, consumed raw milk purchased
at the McGinnis Sisters Special Foods Store. The raw milk
was produced by Dean Farms doing business as Pasture Maid,
LLC, a creamery located in New Castle.

Orchard's daughter also fell ill.

"She was the one that made the connection that it was the
milk. She stopped drinking it and we got better," Orchard said.

Milk from the bottles produced by Dean Farms purchased at the
McGinnis Sisters store tested positive for Campylobacter bacteria.
Many people who develop Guillain-Barré syndrome first had a
Campylobacter infection.

Since the positive tests, Dean Farms has since had its license
pulled and is no longer allowed to sell raw milk.

Orchard said she believes the agricultural department needs to
do a better job of testing and warning consumers about the risks.

"I don't necessarily want to stop the selling of raw milk, but
I think some information needs to be out there so people make
some wise choices," she said.

Raw milk is milk that has not been pasteurized. Pasteurization,
a "kill step," destroys pathogens like Campylobacter.

Doctors said Orchard's condition is treatable.

"They can't give me a time line because everybody's different
of how long this will take or how much physical therapy he's
going to need," Orchard said.

A spokesperson for the agriculture department told Channel 11
he does not recommend consuming raw milk, but right now there
are 129 production permits in the state.

Stop Obama's sneak attack on GMO labeling!
Stand Up for Your Right to Know!
Say "No!" to bad rules regarding GMOs!

If the U.S. government has its way, a powerful intergovernmental group you’ve probably never heard of may soon prevent anyone anywhere from labeling genetically modified (GMO) food.

Operated by the United Nations, the Codex Alimentarius is a collection of guidelines, codes and recommendations regarding food safety and labeling standards which are used by the World Trade Organization (WTO) to settle international disputes regarding food and agricultural trade agreements.

The U.S. Delegation to the Codex meeting is adopting a position that would make it virtually impossible to label foods as "GMO-free" anywhere in the world. Click on the link below to stop this end-run around our democratic process and make sure the voice of the American people is heard on GMO labeling.

http://action.fooddemocracynow.org/go/stop_the_sneak_attack/127?akid=115.131182.E2LedC&t=7

According to draft language circulated by the FDA, the U.S. will oppose a proposal at an upcoming meeting of an important Codex committee that would allow the labeling of genetically engineered food. Consumers Union and more than 80 family farm, public health, environmental and organic food organizations, including Food Democracy Now!, have raised concerns that the U.S. position will create major problems for American producers who want to label their products as “GMO-free.”

Unfortunately, rather than taking a proactive stance on GMO labeling and standing up for the rights of America's citizens, the Obama administration has incorporated pre-existing Bush administration positions, stating that Codex should not “suggest or imply that GM/GE foods are in any way different from other foods.”1

Leading national food policy experts believe this position directly contradicts USDA Organic standards, which prohibit the use of genetically engineered products. If adopted, the Obama administration’s proposal might not only weaken organic standards, but could also lead to further genetic contamination of U.S. organic crops - the fastest and most profitable segment of agriculture today.

Even worse, the current U.S. draft position paper declares that mandatory labeling laws such as they have in Europe are “false, misleading or deceptive.“2 If the U.S. succeeds in writing this proposed Codex regulation, any attempts to label foods here in the U.S. as genetically engineered, whether voluntary or by law, would become far more difficult, if not impossible.

This extreme position on genetically engineered food is unacceptable. Countries should be able to make their own decisions on the labeling of genetically engineered foods. Please click on the link below to tell the Obama administration that you support labeling of GMO food:

Midday Nap Good for Brain
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/8524549.stm

Spend a little time resting during the day for a little sleep and you will get your brain abilities better. The study by University of California, showed that naps during the day can increase overall brain work.

A study conducted in 39 healthy people who slept for an hour and a half during the middle of the day proved the overall increase in their brains functions. Since the morning, the test participants have been given hard learning for an exam. After the day some participants told to little sleep and the others stay awake. When they woke up, all of the participants in order to do the same task and the results have shown it is better for the participants who did a midday nap than those who did not.

According to the researchers, the naps help a person to process short-term memories into long-term ones, clearing the temporary storage portion of the brain so that new information can take its place. A sleep phase somewhere between deep sleep and dreaming sleep, temporary memories move from the hippocampus to the pre-frontal cortex.

In addition good for the brain, a good sleeps will also be good for the overall function of the organs in our body. Nevertheless we must be wise and proportionate in regulating our sleep time and duration. Because of long sleep duration is also not good, especially when the working day. Just take advantage of our little time lunch breaks better to be able recover our stamina. Midday nap may be better even only for 1 hour.

Vegans Don't Eat Enough Protein
Posted by: "cohensmilk1" cohensmilk1@yahoo.com cohensmilk1
Sun Apr 11, 2010 4:58 am (PDT)

One day, sickly vegans will occupy all of the
hospital beds in America, while meat eaters
will fill all of the slots in CBS's new reality
show, "America's Healthiest Specimens."

On that day, the moon will turn blue, hell will
freeze over, and the NY Mets will win the pennant.

The World Health Organization recommends that the
average adult consume 28-35 grams of protein each day.
The average American delivers well over 100 grams of
protein to his or her body each day, and that might
be the reason for our high rates of cancer, heart
disease, osteoporosis, asthma, and diabetes.

As for protein deficiency, visit any U.S. hospital and ask:

"How many patients occupy beds here because they
do not eat enough protein?"

The answer you will get is, "Zero."

Hospitals are filled with Americans who have eaten too
much dietary animal protein. It is nearly impossible
to live in America and not satisfy your protein needs.

In 1988, Dr. C. Everett Koop, the Surgeon General of
the United States issued his Report on Nutrition and
Health, which concluded:

"The average man in the US eats 175% more protein
than the recommended daily allowance and the
average woman eats 144% more."

The Surgeon General had to had to have been aware of
these five additional scientific facts:

(1)

"Osteoporosis is caused by a number of things, one of
the most important being too much dietary protein."

Science 1986;233(4763)

(2)

"Countries with the highest rates of osteoporosis,
such as the United States, England, and Sweden,
consume the most milk. China and Japan, where
people eat much less protein and dairy food, have
low rates of osteoporosis. "

Nutrition Action Healthletter, June, 1993

(3)

"Dietary protein increases production of acid in
the blood which can be neutralized by calcium
mobilized from the skeleton."

American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 1995; 61

(4)

"Even when eating 1,400 mg of calcium daily, one
can lose up to 4% of his or her bone mass each year
while consuming a high-protein diet."

American Journal of Clinical Nutrition 1979;32

(5)

"Increasing one's protein intake by 100%
may cause calcium loss to double."

Journal of Nutrition, 1981; 111

One year after the Surgeon General's comments, the
European Journal of Epidemiology (1999 Jul, 15:6,
507-15) reported:

"Animal food-groups were directly correlated to
mortality from coronary heart disease, defined as
sudden coronary death or fatal myocardial
infarction and vegetable food-groups (except
potatoes) as well as fish and alcohol were
inversely correlated with CHD mortality.
Univariate analysis showed significant positive
correlation coefficients for butter (R = 0.887),
meat (R = 0.645), pastries (R = 0.752), and milk
(R = 0.600) consumption, and significant
negative correlation coefficients for legumes
(R = -0.822), oils (R = -0.571), and alcohol
(R = -0.609) consumption. Combined vegetable
foods (excluding alcohol) were inversely
correlated (R = -0.519), whereas combined
animal foods (excluding fish) were directly
correlated (R = 0.798) with coronary heart
disease death rates."

"Do you think horses and elephants worry about
not having any animal protein in their diet?
Elephants are bigger and stronger than you."
